Botox® for Christmas

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on the rush Christmas.

Its a scary thought but with less than 2 months to go to Christmas day, my botox patients will soon be flocking in to reduce the appearance of their fine lines and wrinkles in time for this important period of the year.

Timing is critical to make sure that you look and feel your best and maximise the beneficial effects of the botox treatment. Since botox normally takes 2 weeks to work and you may require a botox top up at this 2 week period and that this top up may take a further few days to work, I would allow a month before Christmas to have enough time. Therefore you would be looking at mid November at the latest to be certain that you will look fabulous for Christmas.

Some patients may comment and not want to have the botox treatment too soon in case it wears off when it comes around to Christmas. Botox® will normally last between three and four months and with our three month guarantee, you can be certain that it will not wear off too soon.

Another point to consider during this time of year is the work Christmas party and alcohol. You don’t necessarily have to avoid alcohol straight after your botox treatment. But since botox dehydrates your body, you will need to drink plenty of water, especially if you are planning to consume alcohol within a couple of days of your botox treatment.

Planning is the key. Book your botox treatment in advance and relax and stress about what presents you need to buy your friends and family!

Botox® and the lower third of the face

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog talks about botox and the lower third of the face.

In the majority of cases the upper third of the face is treated with botox injections, namely the frown, forehead and eyes. However botox can be used to treat the lower third of the face and I will discuss the most commonest areas requested for botox treatments.

The first is the chin area. Some people when they contract their chin muscles produce lines or an orange peel effect around the chin area. This can be successfully treated with botox. You will notice the results within 2 weeks.

The next area we could consider to treat with botox is the vertical lines that ape ear either above the upper lip or below the lower lip. These are normally referred to as smokers lines. However these so called smokers lines can appear in non smokers. These lines can be seen when you purse the lips. The botox injections are placed very superficially and a very small dose is used.

Next we can consider the sides of the nose. When you scrunch your nose, lines may appear on the side of the nose, also known as bunny lines. Same again the botox is paced into the muscles to reduce the appearance of these lines.

Another area, where botox can be effective to treat is the corners of the mouth. Some people can produce a sad look and this muscles grows in strength over time, to such an extent that it might permanently force the corners of the mouth downwards to give a sad look all the time. The botox can relax this muscle and uplift the corners of the mouth. This is a very subtle result.

Other areas that can be considered for botox injections are the neck area, jaw muscles and neck line.

Botox® – the process

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on the baby step process in botox and facial aesthetics.

With current trends advising the full face assessment and treatment with botox, you maybe as a patient be thinking where to start. Each case is unique and no treatment plan with botox fits all, however below I outline a typical botox protocol for my patients. I would normally suggest starting off with botox in the upper third of the face. This will give the most dramatic and quickest result and is relatively straightforward and comfortable for the patient to handle. I would initially do no other treatment at the patients first visit than botox here and then let the patient return for the botox review appointment in a couple of weeks. At the review appointment, we would ask how the patient feels and reassess the areas treated and if needed, administer a botox top up.

Then we would start to look at the mid face and lower face areas. Normally, but not always we are looking at replacing loss volume with dermal fillers. This is amore invasive and longer procedure compared to botox and thats why I would not offer this treatment as the first choice, well not until the patient has experienced other treatments with me. There is also more downtime associate with dermal fillers compared to botox treatments.

The time frame for the full face treatment can be as short or as long as the patient feels comfortable and to some degree, affordability will come into play. I always tell my patients that there is no rush to have everything done, and we would not want to change the face dramatically over a short period of time, where others may notice. A slow gradual approach is always preferred.
