dermal fillers

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on how do dermal fillers work.

How do Dermal Fillers work?
The principle effect of using Dermal fillers is to plump up certain areas around the face, such as the lips or cheeks. The Dermal filler once injected will level out with other part of the skin and making it look plumped out, firm, young, refreshed, even in tone and no longer sunken.
How does it work?
Our skin is made up of two layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The outermost layer is the epidermis. The epidermis is responsibility is to protect the outer skin against the effects of the environment and other components. The epidermis controls water loss from the tissues and cells, serving as a boundary to the outside environment.
The dermis layer is underneath the epidermis and provides the skin’s structural elements, for example the blood vessels, hair follicles and nerves. The largest part of the dermis is collagen; this gives the skin elasticity and strength. As we grow older, the epidermis gradually becomes thin and provides less protection to the dermis layer. The collagen production in the body slows down as the current collagen becomes ineffective. This then causes the wrinkles or folds in the skin because of the deteriorating epidermis and weakened collagen. At this point many people opt for dermal fillers as they work as replenishment for the natural collagen.
Many of the dermal fillers available are designed only to be used in one area, for example the lips.
Having the treatment
Having a Dermal filler treatment requires an anaesthetic cream being applied to the treatment area. Depending on the type of Dermal filler being used and the area of treatment, different types of injections and injection techniques would be used. When treating wrinkles with Dermal fillers there are two injections techniques that can be used, linear technique or the serial puncture technique.
The linear technique, the needle is injected midway into the wrinkle and the filler is injected while pulling the needle slowly backwards.
The serial puncture technique involves a number of injections being administered alongside the wrinkle to lift it.
The recovery time from this treatment can be anything from 30 minutes to a few hours.

reputable botox clinic

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on How to find a reputable and registered Botox® Clinic

Botox® treatments are safe; however it is imperative to find a reputable, registered and experienced doctor within an established clinic. Below are a few guidelines to follow when considering a Botox® Clinic:
1, Injecting Botox® requires a qualified, specifically trained, skilled doctor who has had many years’ experience in this field.
2, You should check that the doctor administering the Botox® injection is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). The GMC have an online checking service that allows you to see if the doctor is registered.
3, It is important to check that the doctor has the relevant insurances to protect you if something was to go wrong.
4, Beware of the premises and environment you will be going to. A small minority of premises are not suitable to perform botox injectable treatments. Attending a free consultation will allow you to see the premises, use of equipment.
5, Beware of service regularities from a particular premises. Does the clinic open at regular time and the same address? Is it always the same doctor that performs the Botox® treatment? How long has this particular doctor being work at the clinic?
6, Seek clinics and / or a doctor who only specialises in Botox® and other aesthetic procedures, a good rule is that a particular clinic or doctor provides dermal fillers.
7, Look at the success of the clinic or doctor, for example testimonials, awards they have won, speak to other about a particular clinic or doctor.
8, Many reputable botox clinics offer a free consultation. This is good news, as it allows you to check the premises, staff and how confident and comfortable you feel with the doctor.
9, A good indication that the clinic is highly reputable is they provide a free follow up service. This service is also known as the top up. If you are new to Botox® injections, it is good practice for you to follow up with the doctor two weeks later to make sure that you are happy with the results.
10, In the United Kingdom, many clinics’ charge for Botox® injection per area, such as frown lines as being one area and crow’s feet being another area. Some clinics in the United Kingdom may charge a supplement for men having Botox®, as men have stronger facial muscles and will need higher doses.

Botox® and wrinkles

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on botox and wrinkles.
Botox® injections also known as anti wrinkle injections are used to either eliminate or prevent wrinkles. We know botox works by stopping the nerve transmitting a signal to the muscle and thus preventing its contraction and the subsequent appearance of wrinkles.

But what causes a wrinkle in the first place?

As we age our skin cells become thinner and less sticky.
Obviously thinner cell mean the appearance of the skin is thinner.

There are other factors that cause the skin to become thinner. These can be extrinsic such as over sun exposure, smoking, stress and lack of sleep. Therefore to maximise the effects of your botox treatments you want to either reduce or eliminate tees external ageing factors.

The natural production of collagen also decreases and our elastin fibres start to wear out. These are the building blocks of our skin; the elastin is what keeps everything in place. As this starts to wear out the building blocks of our skin start to crumble, this is what causes our skin to sag and wrinkle.
Botox® in not a standalone treatment. The patients that achieve the best results with botox injections are the ones that combine a good regular skin care regime to prevent the ageing of the skin and reduce the occurrence of fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox® and the Gummy Smile

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on the gummy smile and botox.

Gummy Smile and Botox®
What is a Gummy Smile?
A gummy smile is when a person is smiling and a more than the normal proportion, around 2mm off the gum shows above the upper teeth. In this situation you may find people covering their mouth when they laugh or smile.
Those that suffer from Gummy Smile may benefit from Botox® injections.
What is Botox® or Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein and the injections are extremely safe. The practitioner uses a fine needle and a very small amount of Botox®, which is then injected into a targeted area of the muscle or muscle groups to cause temporary muscle relaxation. The actual procedure will take just five to ten minutes and involves a small number of injections.
How does Botox® work?
Botox® works by injecting the ends between the nerve and the muscle to relax the muscle fibres. This treatment is reversible, in time, when the Botox® toxins are broken down and removed by the body.
How can Botox® injections correct a Gummy Smile?
Botox® injections offer a non-surgical, non-invasive, safe and approved procedure to temporarily correct a Gummy Smile. To see the full benefits of having a Botox® injection will take a couple of week (14 days) after the initially treatment, however the effects will last between three to four months (this can vary between individuals). Having a Botox® treatment is quick, effective and convenient to administer.
This treatment will need to be repeated every three to four months.
What are the side effects if any?
It is normal to have a few small raised bumps and redness at the injection site; this will subside after about 20 minutes after the treatment taking place. Bruising at the injection site may occur however this will resolve quickly.
