Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog talks about how botox works to reverse the ‘sad face’ look.

As we know botox works by reducing or eliminating muscles from contracting. It is normally used in the upper third of the face and will treat areas such as the forehead, frown and eyes.

As we learnt more about how botox worked and what results we would expect , it started to be used in the lower face. Treating the lower face with botox should only be carried out by experienced practitioners as it is less forgiving than the upper third if you make a mistake.

In the upper third of the face, the muscles are relatively large and if the botox spreads there is normally no real harm done. However the muscles in the lower face are much smaller and there are a lot more interacting muscles. Therefore is you either inject in the wrong muscle or the botox spreads to a  different muscle, you will experience complications.

Now the sad look is created by a set of muscles pulling down the corners of your mouth. By injecting botox into these muscles, you relax the downward pull these muscles have created and the corners of the mouth begin to lift. You wont get a huge difference, but it will be noticeable to you.
